Unity<\/strong>&nbsp;- we affirm our connection to the legacy of the Unity of the Brethren, a bright chapter of our history.\nThe Unity of the Brethren remained faithful in preaching the Gospel and interpreting the Bible \u2013 the Holy Scriptures. Because of this faithfulness, it gained great respect throughout the Christian world.\nIt gave the world John Amos Comenius, who was its last bishop and overseer.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Baptists<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 was originally a nickname given to our predecessors.\nIt comes from the Greek word baptizein \u2013 to baptize, to immerse. It points to the fact that we practice the baptism of those who have freely decided to follow the Lord Jesus Christ, believed the Gospel, repented, and received the grace of forgiveness of their sins.\nBased on this faith, brothers and sisters are baptized. It is meant to be a confirmation that we do not want to be merely formal Christians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We partly consider the Anabaptists to be our predecessors, as they represented the radical wing of the global Reformation.\nIn the 16th century, they fled persecution from Switzerland through Germany to southern Moravia, where they established \u201cBrethren Courts\u201d \u2013 communities of fifty to sixty families.\nThey became known as the Hutterites, and their number grew to as many as fifty thousand members. These were strictly Bible-led communities, which is why they experienced God\u2019s blessing and achieved a high standard in craftsmanship and agriculture.\n\nAfter the Battle of White Mountain, the Hutterites were also forced to leave Moravia, and the historical continuity with the Anabaptists was broken.\nThe first Baptist congregations in our territory began to emerge over a hundred years ago as a result of missionary work by German, and later American, brethren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Brethre Baptist Union<\/strong>&nbsp;- began to form in Slovakia even before the First World War. During the period between the two world wars, there were essentially two unions in Slovakia \u2013 the Slovak and the Czechoslovak. With the establishment of the federation in 1968, there were already three unions within Czechoslovakia. Even a year after the split of Czechoslovakia, a joint Baptist Union of Czechs and Slovaks still existed. Today, the BUB is a looser association of autonomous local churches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-separator alignfull stk-block-separator stk--no-padding stk-block stk-92e23e3\"
