N\u00e1zov \u201eLevitikus\u201c znamen\u00e1 \u201ez\u00e1le\u017eitosti Levitov\u201c, av\u0161ak kniha sa rozsiahle zaober\u00e1 hlavne pokynmi pre k\u0148azov (ako maj\u00fa doprev\u00e1dza\u0165 \u013eud pri uctievan\u00ed Boha) a pokynmi pre \u013eud (ako \u017ei\u0165 sv\u00e4t\u00e9 \u017eivoty hodn\u00e9 ich sv\u00e4t\u00e9ho Boha). Stredobodom knihy je sv\u00e4tos\u0165 Bo\u017eia. Moj\u017ei\u0161 na hore Sinaj dost\u00e1va od Boha z\u00e1kon, Jeho sv\u00e4t\u00e9 \u0161tandardy, ktor\u00fdmi sa Bo\u017e\u00ed \u013eud od\u010dlen\u00ed a odl\u00ed\u0161i od pohansk\u00fdch n\u00e1rodov a ich skazen\u00e9ho uctievania modiel. Tento z\u00e1kon bol eventu\u00e1lne vyjadren\u00edm dokonal\u00e9ho charakteru Boha, vysvet\u013eoval, ak\u00fd sv\u00e4t\u00fd je Boh a ak\u00fd sv\u00e4t\u00fd a dokonal\u00fd mus\u00ed by\u0165 \u010dlovek, ak chce ma\u0165 spolo\u010denstvo s t\u00fdmto Bohom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Z\u00e1kon dal Boh \u013eu\u010fom fin\u00e1lne nato, aby zistili, \u017ee ho nedok\u00e1\u017eu sami naplni\u0165, a potrebuj\u00fa z\u00e1stupcu, tak dostato\u010dn\u00e9ho z\u00e1stupcu, ktor\u00fd ho dok\u00e1\u017ee naplni\u0165 za nich \u010di namiesto nich (takto z\u00e1kon vedie, \u010di sl\u00fa\u017ei ako vychov\u00e1vate\u013e ku Kristovi). S\u00fa\u010das\u0165ou Bo\u017eieho z\u00e1kona boli i nariaden\u00e9 zvieracie obete, ktor\u00e9 mali hrie\u0161nici a k\u0148azi prin\u00e1\u0161a\u0165, aby im boli odpusten\u00e9 hriechy. Hriechy v\u0161ak nemohli by\u0165 a ani neboli odpusten\u00e9 skrze samotn\u00fa obe\u0165 (obete boli symbolick\u00e9), lebo krv bar\u00e1nkov, b\u00fdkov, \u010di kozlov nem\u00e1 moc odstr\u00e1ni\u0165 hriech. Hriech bol odpusten\u00fd skrze vieru a pok\u00e1nie \u010dloveka, pri\u010dom sa t\u00e1to viera prakticky prejavila poslu\u0161nou zvieracou obe\u0165ou. \u00da\u010delom obetn\u00e9ho syst\u00e9mu bolo da\u0165 priestor skuto\u010dne kaj\u00facemu v\u010fa\u010dn\u00e9mu \u010dloveku vyjadri\u0165 Bohu vieru a l\u00e1sku. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pokia\u013e obe\u0165 nebola doprev\u00e1dzan\u00e1 kaj\u00facim v\u010fa\u010dn\u00fdm srdcom a bola uroben\u00e1 len tak povrchne, nemala \u017eiaden \u00fa\u017eitok, \u010dloveka od hriechu neo\u010distila a Boh tak\u00fa obe\u0165 neprijal. Sv\u00e4tost\u00e1nok sl\u00fa\u017eil pre prin\u00e1\u0161anie t\u00fdchto obet\u00ed, av\u0161ak len raz za rok (J\u00f3m Kipp\u00far \u2013 De\u0148 Zmierenia, kap.\u202f16) smel iba najvy\u0161\u0161\u00ed k\u0148az vojs\u0165 do najsv\u00e4tej\u0161ej \u010dasti sv\u00e4tyne, do sv\u00e4tyne sv\u00e4t\u00fdch. K\u0148az musel najprv prinies\u0165 obe\u0165, bezchybn\u00e9ho bar\u00e1nka, za seba, a pokropi\u0165 jeho krvou pokr\u00fdvku truhly zmluvy, ktor\u00e1 bola vo sv\u00e4tyni sv\u00e4t\u00fdch. Potom vzal jedn\u00e9ho bezchybn\u00e9ho kozla, ktor\u00fd sl\u00fa\u017eil ako z\u00e1stupn\u00e1 obe\u0165, ktor\u00e1 zomrie namiesto \u013eud\u00ed; k\u0148az ho zabil, a krvou tie\u017e pokropil pokr\u00fdvku archy zmluvy. Na druh\u00e9ho kozla polo\u017eili ruky, symbolicky na\u0148 preniesli hriechy \u013eud\u00ed, a potom ho vyhnali do divo\u010diny p\u00fa\u0161te, aby vzal hriechy \u013eud\u00ed pre\u010d a v divo\u010dine zomrel. Obetn\u00fd syst\u00e9m izraelsk\u00e9ho n\u00e1roda mal sl\u00fa\u017ei\u0165 ako neust\u00e1la pripomienka, \u017ee za hriech sa mus\u00ed draho plati\u0165 krvou (\u017eivotom). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neust\u00e1le opakovan\u00e9 obete vyjadrovali potrebu jednej fin\u00e1lnej dokonalej obete. Obete sl\u00fa\u017eili ako tie\u0148 \u010di predzves\u0165 tej bud\u00facej, dokonalej z\u00e1stupnej obete (Krista na kr\u00ed\u017ei). Zvieracie obete odstra\u0148ovali hriech skrze vieru do\u010dasne. Ale aby boli hrie\u0161nici zachr\u00e1nen\u00ed dokonale od v\u0161etk\u00fdch hriechov nav\u017edy, mus\u00ed pr\u00eds\u0165 v bud\u00facnosti lep\u0161ia obe\u0165, dokonal\u00fd Bar\u00e1nok, ktor\u00fd zomrie raz a nav\u017edy, ktor\u00fd vyleje svoju krv, ktor\u00fd zomrie ako \u00fapln\u00e1 a posledn\u00e1 z\u00e1stupn\u00e1 obe\u0165. Boh nariadil v z\u00e1kone vo v\u0161eobecnosti obete: z\u00e1paln\u00e9 obete (zmierenie hrie\u0161nosti \u010dloveka), obiln\u00e9 \/ pr\u00eddavn\u00e9 obete (vzdanie pocty Bohu), pokojn\u00e9 obete (chv\u00e1la Boha a spolo\u010denstvo s N\u00edm), obete za hriech (zmierenie nevedom\u00fdch hriechov), obete za vinu (napravi\u0165 vz\u0165ah viery) (kap.\u202f1\u20137). Nariaden\u00e9 bolo aj k\u0148azstvo po\u010d\u00ednaj\u00fac \u00c1ronom (bratom Moj\u017ei\u0161a) a jeho synmi, av\u0161ak Nad\u00e1ba a Ab\u00edh\u00faa s\u00e1m Boh nesk\u00f4r usmrtil kv\u00f4li ich nedbal\u00e9mu uctievaniu (kap.\u202f10), \u010do zd\u00f4raz\u0148uje, \u017ee k Bohu treba pristupova\u0165 v\u017edy tak, ako to On vy\u017eaduje, nie ako si to \u010dlovek umieni. Z\u00e1kon tie\u017e obsahoval pr\u00edkazy oh\u013eadom ritu\u00e1lnej \u010distoty (\u010distota a ne\u010distota \u013eud\u00ed \u010di zvierat, telesn\u00e9 v\u00fdrony, choroby, \u010di in\u00e9 stavy), ktor\u00e9 nemali len hygienick\u00fd r\u00e1z, ale aj hlbok\u00fd teologick\u00fd. Zd\u00f4raz\u0148ovali vroden\u00fa ne\u010distotu, nedostato\u010dnos\u0165 \u013eudstva a potrebu o\u010disty zn\u00fatra-navonok pred sv\u00e4t\u00fdm Bohom. Kniha sa zameriava nielen na to \u201ekoho\u201c uctieva\u0165 (prv\u00e9 prik\u00e1zanie Desatora), ale aj \u201eako\u201c uctieva\u0165 (druh\u00e9 prik\u00e1zanie). \u010clovek nesmie uctieva\u0165 Boha pod\u013ea toho, ako uzn\u00e1 za vhodn\u00e9 vo vlastn\u00fdch o\u010diach, mus\u00ed uctieva\u0165 Boha pod\u013ea toho, ako to On povedal. Kniha kon\u010d\u00ed po\u017eehnaniami za poslu\u0161nos\u0165 a \u0165a\u017ek\u00fdmi v\u00fdstrahami za neposlu\u0161nos\u0165.
